Who we are

In 2019, NCAPL (Originally called “Hand-Up Crew”, Founder Nardella Thomas organized homeowners from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, and Illinois have come together to stop predatory lending from BlueHub Capital's Stabilizing Urban Neighborhoods (SUN Initiative), headquartered in Roxbury,  Massachusetts.  We are truly a grass roots organization. The National Coalition Against Predatory Lending (NCAPL) characterizes BlueHub Capital as “The Crooks in our  Neighborhood”.

It is our passion to educate, and armor homeowners and communities to stand up to these shady lenders. Your home and your homeowners rights are not be turned into indentured servitude.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF NCAPL

2019 - Homeowners established themselves as the “Hand Up Crew”. As we continue to grow and expand to other states impacted by BlueHub Capital, we have had to meet their adversarial tactics at the state legislative level. We carried our truth and advocated to elected officials by any means necessary. We evolved to name ourselves, the National Coalition Against Predatory Lending.

February 2020 - First protest against BlueHub Capital. Front Page Boston Globe story Homeowners filed a Class Action Lawsuit against BlueHub Capital

August 2020 - BlueHub filed motion to dismiss lawsuit, judge denied BlueHub Capital’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

December 2021 - Testified at Boston City Council Housing Committee about BlueHub Capital

May 2023 - Testified before the joint Judiciary Committee at the Massachusetts State House in opposition to bills filed to benefit BlueHub Capital’s predatory lending practices.

September 2023 - Displayed a billboard calling to bad laws and BlueHub Capital’s Shared Appreciation Mortgage “SCAM”

October 2023 - Protested at BlueHub Capital headquarters.

December 2023 - Displayed a billboard off Boston highway showcasing Class Action Lawsuit filed in

July 2024 -Changed name from Hand-Up Crew to National Coalition Against Predatory Lending

July 2024 - Lobbied at State House to oppose bills being introduced into the Economic Development Bill.

September 2024 - Class Action Lawsuit attorney presented arguments for summary judgement in Suffolk Superior Court.

November 2024 - Confronted Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey for not vetoing Section 269 of Economic Bill that provides immunity to her long-time friend and financial support, Elyse Cherry, CEO of BlueHub Capital.

November 2024 - BlueHub Capital filed motion to dismiss Class Action Lawsuit based on new law.

December 2024 - Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell filed an Amicus Brief in Suffolk Superior Court providing clarity that Section 269 is not retroactive and will not impact the class action lawsuit filed by homeowners alleging predatory lending against Roxbury-based, non-profit, BlueHub Capital.   

December 2024 - NCAPL members met with Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell, expressed concern that Governor Healey opened a pandora’s box for predatory lending.

January 2025 - NCAPL members went to Suffolk Superior Court in opposition of BlueHub Capital’s motion to dismiss Class Action Lawsuit. Awaiting Chief Justice Michael D. Ricciuti’s ruling.

April 2025 - Attended Information Session at Massachusetts State House to support H1145, sponsored by Representative Michelle DuBois, “An Act Regulating Certain Mortgages”.
